Working nowdays in the EU is to be confronted with an extensively demanding world: extensive work periods and fear of loosing the job may induce various symptoms, among them burn-out, depression and even suicide. Workers tend to put all ressources and energy to maintain their professional activity, neglecting their family and privaye life. The flexible work organisation of our occidental societies requires personal autonomy and relational competences which may be difficult to develop for a large number of workers. Psychological and affective investment in family and couple relationships is thus clearly reduce, leading to numerous signs of distress presented by family members of each generation : somatisations, depression, conflict with spouse and children, loss of intimacy, school difficulties and behavioral disturbances in adolescents. Notably social distress tends to express itself by mental symptoms more then by social conflicts. In this specific situation, psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers are called to recognise and cure the pathology of social and family relationships. We thus treat families whose members are simultaneously, not only in family therapy, but also in couple and individual therapy : psychologism or the present way to find space and time to feel and think ? The authors will discuss the theorical aspects of these multiple therapeutic interventions and the clinical difficulties that may come out.
