The aim was to construct a short, standardized questionnaire to measure changes in quality of relationships and effectiveness in different social systems. We intended to avoid a normative approach and to provide assessment on multiple levels. EVOS should fill the gap in current diagnostic research particularly with regard to systemic interventions. EVOS comprises two subscales: 1. quality of relationship is based on theories of functional social systems (e.g. Olsen et al., 1985). 2. Within collective effectiveness we conducted theoretical dimensions with regard to necessary stages in successful systemic therapy (von Schlippe & Schweitzer, 2011) and to the concept of collective efficacy (Bandura, 2000). In a first study a non-clinical sample (N > 500) was tested to undertake item selection. Within a second study data collection was carried out (non-clinical sample, N > 500) to validate the factor structure and test quality criteria of the 13-item version. Construct validity was measured using measures of General Life Satisfaction (Fahrenberg et al., 2000), Family Questionnaires (Cierpka & Frevert, 1995) etc. Good psychometric properties were found. Exploratory factor analysis led to a two-factor solution. In CFA a two-factor model showed the best fit. Good reliabilities were observed. Criterion and construct validity were highly demonstrated. EVOS is a reliable, valid and economic tool measuring the perceived quality of relationship and effectiveness in personal and organizational social systems. A study to test sensitivity to change and test-quality criteria of the external rating version EVOS-E is currently in development.
