The asthma is an extremely complex illness associated with allergic, climatic, infectious, endocrinous and emotional factors. The importance of the psychological factors has been demonstrated by diverse studies that can be summarized in two aspects: The existence of psychological factors in the triggering of the crisis and particular characteristics of the personality of the asthmatic child.
The asthma has been related to families with dysfunctional dynamics, overprotection to the asthmatic member, especially when he/she is a child. Overprotection contributes to school problems and isolation; the safety sensation of the child is related to the presence of the parents whose worries do not allow the child to develop social skills, self security and the possibility of diminishing the impact of psychological elements in the development of asthmatic assaults.
From the previous context is observed the need to generate strategies of attention in the family area that reduce the effect of the assaults of asthma and decrease family events that promote the development of the symptoms.
The present work proposes an intervention strategy designed specifically for parents of children with asthma. The proposal is based on an exhaustive review of methods of systemic approach interventions, emphasizing family implications and the particularities in the interaction performed with an asthmatic member.
The technique proposed consist in no more than 10 sessions, including family evaluation, asthma current status in the patient and the family, the form in which asthma has affected other family areas, and the development of concrete tasks for every family especially focused on the fulfillment of the goal.
The established goals will be addressed to reduce significantly the number of assaults of asthma. Finally, the evaluation is contemplated in two aspects: a quantitative evaluation according to the number of crisis and qualitative evaluation of the parents perception of advance and their satisfaction level
